New bike = tighter pants.

2/4/13

Home from team camp. Mt. Diablo and Mt. Hamilton, the latter a seven hour day. Two month off season is not making things easy. Racing starts next weekend and I'm still getting my shit together.

The enemy's gate is down.

Saw a super friendly lost dog on my ride today. Checked its collar and knew the street it lived on to about four miles away. Attached my spare tube to its collar as a leash and took it home. I rock.

Lance Armstrong represents everything that's wrong with society today. He lied his way to the top, he collected hundreds of millions of dollars by cheating, he bullied and threatened anyone who got in his way, and now he stages a public relations "confession" on Oprah that smacks of yet more manipulation of the public eye. It's all so pathetic it makes me want to vomit.

Rest of the article.

Thirteen years and counting, getting new gear never gets old.

12/30/12

Went from getting five-six hours of sleep per night during the off-season to nine-ten right now. Miles make me tired.

12/26/12

Last time I ride any Winter base with cross riders. Ninety miles with 5000ft of climbing and averaged 20mph. Holy fuck I've never suffered that much in December.

12/15/12

All day team building camp in the SF Headlands today. Rain, wind, cold. Absolutely exhausted. Just happy we weren't boated out to the middle of the bay and told to swim for shore.

12/11/12

Been riding a lot lately and feeling really good about it. As long as my knee holds strong this is going to be my best year yet.

Pro aspirations are of course resurfacing, think my subconscious is pretty keen and upset that everyday on the bike becomes closer and closer to my last. Oh well.

12/8/12

Rode the roads in Sausalito today, absolutely gorgeous. Tall trees, thick brush, small roads, constant meandering everywhere I went. Best riding I've ever done in the States.

This machine kills fascists.

12/4/12

I don't want to be a trendy asshole, but I really admire this guy. This too.

The only drawback of seeing close friends after a huge intermission is being asked about past girlfriends and the scoop of how things went down. Been pretty good about out of sight and out of mind for awhile now, but the recent influx of intermittent conversations with her as the main topic has brought it all back to the forefront. I think it's time to end my off season and start training again.

"Last night, I entered Central Park at midnight. I chased exhaustion as hard as I could, crested a hill without getting close. Descending fast, no hands, no helmet, a stinging on my face. I wanted July back. I never imagined a month could swell so fat with promise. It was just a spin, I see now, just a fast and furious spin. Someday I will look back with bemusement and calm. I see that, too. But in the park, at midnight, I just wanted to forget, to catch up to numbness. So I pedaled."

As much as I want to get a job/house in a city and start partying and hooking up with girls every night, hell - even just get on a steel frame and tour the country for a year before law school starts, big things are happening with Team Mike's Bikes. We've doubled our team budget with a new title sponsor (Incase), added fucking Daniel Holloway and Adam Switters to the roster (OH SHIT YES), and planning a two month long road trip to all the NCC on the East Coast... Well, here comes another year of shaved legs and tan lines.

Also disgusted by one of my teammates from 2012. Long story short, my team's management was absolutely awesome and patient to him for two years and he pulled some shady ass team-hopping shit this past week. It's just... the management puts a ton of effort and energy into the team for zero monetary compensation whatsoever, they deserve not to be fucked around with and lied to.

10/22/12

My team credited me as teammate of the year last night. Autographed picture of Lance Armstrong is the obvious swag highlight. Tremendously grateful to all of Team Mike's Bikes for 2012 and convincing me it wasn't a mistake to come back to the sport. Really proud of my selfless riding this year and ecstatic to be recognized for it like this. Love, kisses, xoxo.

USADA released it's 1000 page dossier on Lance, Bruyneel, and some other shit stick doping doctors. It contains testimony from practically every American teammate Lance has ever had as well as many staff from the team.

I want to celebrate Betsy and Frank Andreu, David Walsh, Paul Kimmage, Emma O'Reilly, and many others who spoke first about Lance before they were forced to. They stuck to the truth even as they were harassed by Lance's PR and legal teams and further harassed and ostracized by willfully ignorant Lance fans everywhere.

Cannot thank these people enough for the honest work they have done and continue to do, and the bravery they've demonstrated. They are true role models and this world needs more people like them.

And a resounding FUCK YOU FUCK OFF to the people throughout my life who tried to make me feel stupid or belittle me whenever I called Lance a doper or I supported USADA.

A cycling journalist in Europe just got in touch with our management to write a book about our team's season.

Going through various memories and results, completely blown away when I reflect on how incredible this team and the season has been for us. Extremely proud to have been a part of it.

Today had to be the most upsetting day in a long time. I wrote a long vent (posted on the right). This is the absolute worst way to start my off season, mainly because I'm going to have to fucking get over it on my own and stop dwelling - rather than just kick that fucker's shit in next weekend.

9/29/12

2:45am, woke up and can't sleep. God, why? Henleyville in five hours and some fucking awesome pictures for now.

Actually am really curious to see Li Hui's process and how she (he?) manipulates the light leak to pull those kinds of colors.

Rode with a lawyer friend I've met through cycling the other day. He offered me a part-time job as a Law Clerk for his firm to expose me to law work. Hell yes!

Pretty excited all around for law school in Fall 2013, especially after sitting in on my friend's classes. I'm probably going to start studying to retake the LSAT come October, really want to get into a better school if I'm for sure going $150k in debt.
